Some vehicles fit one part of your life well and struggle with the other. The 2027 Kia Seltos is designed to handle both without asking you to make trade-offs. A completely redesigned subcompact SUV, the new Seltos is set to arrive in Canada this summer and brings a larger footprint, more technology, and three powertrain choices to a segment that rewards versatility above all else.
What makes the Seltos worth paying attention to is how naturally it shifts between roles. It earns its keep during the daily grind and still has enough capability left over for the weekend when you want to point it toward a stretch of gravel past the edge of the pavement.
Five days a week, a practical SUV needs to handle traffic, manage parking, and keep the driver comfortable across a long commute. The 2027 Seltos has a 2,690 mm wheelbase and an overall length of 4,430 mm: large enough to feel stable on the highway and manageable in tight urban situations.
Inside, the new Seltos is noticeably roomier than the previous generation. Rear legroom grows by 25 mm and overall headroom also increases by 25 mm. The standard 12.3-inch digital touchscreen is intuitive at a glance, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all trims. Multiple USB-C ports span both rows, and over-the-air update capability through Kia's ccNC platform means the tech stays current.
The standard driver assistance suite covers commuter use well. Standard features are expected to include Smart Cruise Control with stop-and-go, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, and Parking Distance Warning front and rear.
The 2027 Seltos will arrive with two engines at launch. The base option is a 2.0 L 4-cylinder producing 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with Kia's Intelligent Variable Transmission. FWD fuel economy comes in at 8.3/6.8/7.6 L/100 km; AWD is rated at 8.8/7.5/8.2 L/100 km. This is the efficiency-focused pick and is available in both FWD and AWD across the LX, EX, and EX Premium trims.
The turbocharged 1.6 L 4-cylinder, available in X-Line and X-Line Limited, produces 195 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is AWD only, rated at 9.7/8.6/9.2 L/100 km, and reaches 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. A hybrid powertrain is also set to arrive by the end of 2026, introducing a Kia-first e-AWD system on a hybrid SUV. Full HEV specs will be confirmed closer to its on-sale date.
The Seltos is not built for serious off-road work, and it does not need to be. What it handles confidently is the kind of driving that fills most Canadian adventure weekends: a gravel road to a trailhead, a rough stretch of unpaved highway to a campsite, or a forest service road in variable conditions.
AWD-equipped trims include a locking differential, giving the system a more positive bite when grip gets inconsistent. Drive Mode Select lets the driver tailor the vehicle's response to the surface. The X-Line rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/45 R19 tyres and brings distinct bumper skid plates and dark gunmetal side sill accents.
Cargo is where the Seltos gives weekend trips real room to breathe. Behind the second row there is an estimated 786 litres of space; with the rear seats folded, that grows to an estimated 1,817 litres. A two-step foldable luggage board, available on select models, offers more options for organizing gear at different loading heights.
